Website design – how to get your first clients

June 16, 2016

  1. add supporting content
    • pick a niche, prove your expertise through blogging
    • have an active social media presence to show personality
    • share your picture on your website, donโ€™t be afraid to be a bit quirky and have opinions
    • MAKE AN IMPRESSION – if you are boring you are dead in the water
  2. research and contact clients – offer free advice (beyond just to hire you) and the request a call
  3. leverage your personal network – they already trust you (hopefully ๐Ÿ˜‰)
  4. do a mockup project to high value prospects to both prove your value, sincerity and interest
  5. try sending handwritten letters to 20 businesses
  6. look through freelance or job board
  7. advertise – Facebook is teeming with 40 year old Moms that are head of marketing somewhere
  8. attend meetups
  9. post to craigslist
  10. search out local businesses – the key is to have something in common (a location can help)
  11. offer your niche more value – create a directory, blog top 10 companies in sub categories
  12. do a free or discounted project for friends or family
  13. do a project for yourself or your spouse (if you donโ€™t know anyone in the niche you are targeting)
  14. create your own business in the niche – who knows it may end up making more money ๐Ÿ™‚
  15. go out in the wild (gasp) to their business, tradeshow, or event – offer your support and pitch them respectfully
  16. offer free training or a course, do webcasts on specific topics that will help their business (use experts and share and grow leads together)
